Courage To Grow offers plant-based therapy with a mental health perspective for clients seeking recovery and skills to build resilience. Life is best done within a community; therefore, therapeutic interventions are group-based to improve outcomes and foster social connections.

What Is Horticultural Therapy?

Horticultural therapy (HT) is a therapeutic modality used to engage a person or group in plant-related activities and facilitated by a trained horticultural therapist to achieve treatment goals for the group and/or individuals.

Programs can be tailored to the specific goals and objectives of your organization.

Courage To Grow provides services for youth to adults. We provide services at mental health hospitals and clinics, schools, and organizations that support people with disabilities, veterans, and trauma/grief/loss support groups.

Our approach is to use horticultural therapy as means to provide a therapeutic process to improve mental health. Horticultural therapy is another way to treat mental health and can help with grief, trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD.

This unique therapy can be used as a stand-alone programming or as a complementary offering to inspire your clients reach their goals.

  • A horticultural therapist will design, set up, and run a single or several group-based sessions to fit the needs of the group. We will look at your facility, determine equipment and other needs.

    Pricing per 50-60 minute session is $30 per person with a minimum cost of $150 plus materials. Travel up to 15 miles is included in the cost. Additional fees for travel beyond 15 miles could apply.

  • A horticultural therapist will design, set up, and run a seasonal program to fit the needs of your clients. Frequency could look like a weekly program or once a season. We will look at your facility, determine equipment and other needs, in addition, develop the program cost, benefits and outcomes for the program.

    Pricing per 50-60 minute session is $30 per person with a minimum cost of $150 plus materials. Travel up to 15 miles is included in the cost. Additional fees for travel beyond 15 miles could apply.

  • A horticultural therapist will design, set up, and run an on-going program to fit the needs of your clients. We will look at your facility, determine equipment and other needs, in addition to, developing the program cost, benefits and outcomes for the program.

  • For organizations wanting to enhance their work-life balance offerings, you can either host an educational training about plant-based therapy or offer your employees a wellness workshop. These workshops are focused on improving self-care through mindfulness, breathing exercises, and a hands-on activity with plants. Contact for pricing.

  • Programs can take place at your clinic, school, or organization either indoors or outdoors, although the preference is to be outdoors when possible. The goals for each program, group, and individual are unique; for that reason, programs are customized and adapted to best meet the needs of your organization. Ideally, programs take place on-site, but if space is limited, we can assist in recommending another location.

  • At this time, services are not able to be covered by insurance.

  • We collaborate with other healthcare providers and professionals such as mental health practitioners, CNAs, nurses, teachers, etc. Examples of co-treatment could include: co-facilitation of the group; discuss case notes; treatment team meetings; and access to pertinent participant information such as diagnosis, medication and reason for treatment.

    • Has a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in horticultural therapy, or the minimum of a bachelor’s degree with additional coursework in plant science, human science, and horticultural therapy.

    • Has completed a 480-hour internship in horticultural therapy supervised by a professionally registered horticultural therapist.

    • Is professionally registered as a horticultural therapist with the American Horticultural Therapy Association and is designated by the professional credential HTR, Horticultural Therapist-Registered.
